At Maple Ridge Snorkies, we believe true health begins by working with nature rather than against it. Natural rearing is more than a feeding method or wellness trend — it is a lifestyle rooted in supporting the body the way it was beautifully designed to function.
Our approach centers around raising dogs as naturally and thoughtfully as possible through species-appropriate nutrition, clean living, emotional well-being, intentional breeding practices, and a strong focus on supporting the immune system from the inside out.
We believe wellness is built daily through the small choices we make:
real food, clean environments, movement, sunshine, rest, emotional connection, and minimizing unnecessary chemical exposure whenever possible.
Natural rearing views each dog as a whole being — physical, emotional, and environmental health all working together. Rather than simply reacting to illness, our goal is to build a strong foundation that helps the body thrive naturally over the course of a dog’s lifetime.
While we value holistic and natural approaches first, we also recognize the importance of emergency veterinary care when truly needed. Our philosophy is centered on thoughtful, informed care with the long-term health and well-being of our dogs always at the forefront.
Species-Appropriate Raw Nutrition
We feed a biologically appropriate raw diet focused on fresh proteins, organs, raw meaty bones, and nutrient-dense whole foods that support healthy growth, strong teeth, proper digestion, and overall vitality.
Low-Toxin Living
We strive to create an environment with reduced chemical exposure by being mindful about cleaning products, lawn chemicals, synthetic fragrances, food quality, water quality, and the products used around our dogs and home.
Holistic Wellness Support
We value natural and holistic wellness practices including nutrition, homeopathy, herbal support, and lifestyle-based care as part of maintaining balance and supporting overall health whenever appropriate.
Emotional & Physical Well-Being
Dogs thrive when they are given the opportunity to move, play, rest, bond, and live as part of a connected family pack. Proper exercise, enrichment, sunlight, fresh air, and rest all contribute to balanced emotional and physical wellness.
Ethical & Intentional Breeding
We are committed to raising puppies with sound temperaments, loving socialization, and thoughtful breeding practices that prioritize long-term health, stability, and companionship.
Trusting Nature’s Design
We believe there is wisdom in supporting the body naturally and creating an environment where dogs can thrive physically, mentally, and emotionally through balanced, intentional care.
Our goal is to raise emotionally connected, naturally healthy companions that become deeply loved members of the family for years to come.
Between 3 to 4 weeks of age, we start working on the rule of sevens to create dogs that do not stress as easily that are more accepting an adapt to new stimulations and situations the rule of seven is adapted from the article “properly socialized” by Pat Shaap
By the time a puppy reaches seven weeks old, they should have been on seven different types of surfaces played with seven different types of objects. Been in seven different locations outside of their kennel. Benton played with seven new people, indifferent situations and exposed to seven challenges, such as climbing on a box climbing off a box going through tunnels, climbing steps, going down steps over obstacles hide, and seek in and out of a doorway, running around a fence, etc. Eaten from seven different containers and eaten in seven different locations expose the puppies to seven different sounds such as car, horns, thunder, traffic, dog show noises, different types of music, loud voices, vacuum cleaners, etc. Puppy should be taken into town and exposed to different sites and sounds out in public.
🐾 "Working with Maple Ridge Snorkies was a wonderful experience. Before we picked up Buttercup, Martine was willing to FaceTime with us weekly to see and talk to Buttercup. Bringing home Buttercup was an easy transition and she settled in very quickly with our routine and family. She is so smart and loves to play and learn new things, but at the end of the day she also loves to snuggle. Overall, our experience was very positive and we ended up with the perfect dog for our family! I would highly recommend Maple Ridge Snorkies!"
"Martine and Scott breed their puppies with so much love, energy, and sweet consideration; our experience adopting Leo was a beautiful time in our lives! Their diligent commitment to the puppies makes each one of them extra special.
We knew that bringing Leo home to join our family would change our lives, but we didn't quite understand just how much he would change our hearts. Leo has our whole family wondering how we ever got along without him? We call him Leo the Lion Pup, because at just barely 5 lb, he has the Heart of a Lion. Leo is sweet, energetic, clever, and fiercely loyal! Amazingly, just when we think he's reached a limit with his tricks or his understanding of our words, he surprises us yet again. Lately, he even stops to pray with us before he eats! He raises his tiny left paw up to his side, as if he's trying to fold his hands in prayer. And he doesn't eat his food until the prayer is finished. We became Leo's family when we chose him, and he filled the missing piece in our hearts when he chose us. ❤"
"I have never had a small breed dog before so this has been a whole new experience. Sadie’s personality is so much different than our big dog Trixie. Sadie is our little clown who keeps things interesting. She loves chewing, so provided her with a good supply of chew toys. She has several favorites, a little long brown fuzzy thing that she works and gets it folded some way so she can carry it around in her mouth. I got her a lamb on with a short braided rope with a squeaker! She has killed that squeaker. We have laughed so hard sometimes because she could do rapid squeaks. She has slept in our bed from day one without any issues. When she has been naughty or has something she shouldn’t, and I ask her what she is doing she gives me such an innocent look. I don’t think she ever looks guilty. If Trixie is scolded she sure looks guilty and sorry. I don’t think Sadie ever thinks she is guilty. 😂 She has definitely gotten us trained I think!"
